A new cyber security report from Vodafone, Cyber Security: The Innovation Accelerator, highlights a strong link between how cyber security is used and business success, with 86 per cent of high-growth companies[1] seeing information security as an enabler of new business opportunities, rather than simply a means of defense. 

The research showed a number of perceived benefits that strong cyber security can bring to the relationship between an organization and its customers:

London - 12 September 2017 – Dimension Data, the global ICT services and solutions provider, and Cisco, have joined forces and published a white paper to help organizations stay ahead of ransomware threats. Called Ransomware: The Pervasive Business Disruptor the paper looks at ransomware trends and impacts, and how to respond before a threat becomes a business disruptor.

According to a Cisco 2017 Mid-Year Cyber Security Report, ransomware is one of the main threats to digital business. Globally, around 49% of businesses experienced at least one cyber ransom attack in 2016, and of those, 39% were ransomware attacks. In the US alone, the number of attacks rose 300% from 2015 to 2016[1].

Cambridge UK, Monday 11 September – Redgate Software has released a new version of SQL Toolbelt, its portfolio of database development software, that lets developers and administrators see immediately if database deployments have caused any adverse effects.

It addresses a long standing issue that, when database deployments are made, it is vital to monitor their impact in case they lead to SQL Server problems. In many busy organizations, however, it may not be immediately obvious that a deployment has been made, or that the deployment is the cause of resultant issues that arise.

Chessington, Surrey, 5th September 2017 - While summer might have been the holiday season for many people, the rise of mobile devices and remote working is putting an increasing strain on IT service desks, according to research from Sunrise Software, a leading supplier of IT service management (ITSM) solutions. 67% of respondents in the Sunrise Mobile and Summer Service Desk Survey 2017 said their workloads had increased since the widespread adoption of mobile devices, with 27% saying it had increased by a quarter or more.

On May 25, 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into force, and will be a game-changer in how organizations store, secure and manage personal data.

GDPR will affect the whole of the EU Zone, which currently spans 28 member countries and half a billion citizens. Its goal is to unify data protection across the European Union, but because GDPR applies to individuals within the EU or the European Economic Area (EEA), companies outside these zones will still have to meet the standards if they want to continue using data from customers in the EU.
