I just spent much of my morning looking at all the great content management related stories CMS Report covered this past year. Below are the top ten stories of 2012 that we posted here at The stories in this list are ranked based on the rate they were viewed since they were first appeared online.

As always, this is a very nostalgic time of the year for me and I always find myself grateful to the readers, contributing authors, and sponsors that helped make CMS Report become the site it is today. In reflection, I think if you can conclude anything about this past year it is this: The year 2012 was a year of transition for the content management industry.

There was a time when it was perfectly fine for CMS Report to focus solely on the content management system, the software we all use to build our websites, manage our intranets, promote our commerce, and interface with our data. The biggest worry you once had in promoting your online presence was making sure you had chosen the right CMS to host your site. However, technologically this is no longer true and the CMS is no longer the star it once was. The CMS now shares the digital stage with the cloud, mobile devices, social media, search engines, and intelligent personal assistants. If you don't consider and look at how these other technologies impacts your use of a CMS you're likely going to be finding yourself lost in how best to benefit from a CMS. 

Content management also involves much more than software, but also a better understanding of content strategy, business strategy, business process, customer engagement, information systems, and innovation. From the beginning, we've always stressed in many of our featured stories that a CMS is only valuable when you understand its role to your overall business, content management needs, and online strategy. In 2013, as the content management industry continues to evolve along and beyond the CMS, you too can expect CMS Report evolve in bringing you the diversity of articles you seek to improve your understanding of content management and the business of content management.
